We were really hoping to love this hotel, having stayed here 10 years ago and made wonderful memories. Unfortunately, it has gone downhill since then. The Positives: The staff knew it was our anniversary and welcomed us with a bottle of champagne and a thoughtful note—such a sweet gesture. The location is stunning, right on the beach, and our oceanfront room in building 1 had an incredible view. Housekeeping was fantastic—our cleaner was kind, accommodating, and ensured our room was spotless even if we left late. The staff was friendly overall, though they didn’t always follow through on resolving issues. The hotel still makes the best Margaritas—after visiting eight hotels in Mexico, I can say they stand out! The bartenders were excellent, and we truly enjoyed the beach bars and sports bar. The food was decent, with something to eat every day, though it did get repetitive over a two-week stay. One standout meal was the whole fried snapper—it was absolutely amazing! Watching the sunsets was breathtaking. The beds were comfortable, with fresh linens and five pillows per bed—I slept very well. The hotel has resident iguanas, that wander all over the grounds and we loved visiting block 5 and the iguana tree to watch them. They are friendly and harmless. The Negatives: Out of 14 days, we had hot water for only three, even after reporting the issue multiple times. That made rinsing my long hair frustrating and affected our overall comfort. The food often felt recycled and repetitive, and at the Tropical restaurant, birds frequently flew in, stealing food from the salad bar and tables. Staff tried to scare them away, but I was wary of eating salads due to concerns about cleanliness - and frankly bird droppings. The hotel really needs netting or a solution to keep birds out. While the staff was friendly, they didn’t resolve issues effectively. The specialty Thai restaurant was a huge disappointment—our noodle dish was excessively salty, and the fish dish was inedible. The BBQ ribs were just okay. The vibrant colors that initially attracted us to this hotel have now been painted over with dull beige since Wyndham took over, removing some of the charm. Additionally, construction was happening on our floor, making it dustier and louder than we’d have liked. Would we return? No. Would we recommend it? Only if you’re looking for a basic, no-frills, budget-friendly vacation where you can relax on the beach, enjoy drinks, and don’t mind repetitive food and cool showers. The hotel is very much a 3-star experience
