We rented a place via VRBO for a week at La Jolla. Although it was a little further north of our almost-daily surfing destination (Playa Acapulquito), it was still a nice 0.8 mile walk, and not too far. Although it kind of seemed like an older complex, it was actually very well-maintained. It seemed like everything was swept, pruned, cleaned, and mowed almost daily. There was ample security, and the management seemed to be on top of everything. We visited the last week in April, and it was very quiet. There are 4 palapas out front on the beach, and we never had trouble finding a free one any time of day. The 2 pools were also seldom in use. It's just far enough back and below the road that you barely hear the noise (building E, but I'm sure that varies), and the beach out front was very quiet. We did hear a tiny bit of music overflow from Krystal, just south of us, but it was not at all annoying. The beach is super-wide here too, so it's also very quiet. We didn't have a car, and just caught the bus less than 50yds away from our door every day. I'd definitely stay again - although if surfing again, we might check out a couple of the neighboring places just to the south.
